Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is bounded on the north and southwest by the Canadian province of Ontario, and on the south by the American state of New York. For a 14 year old to attempt such a swim in the open waters, it is extremely brave and courageous of her. Annaleise Carr, the 14 year old, will attempt to swim 32.6 miles, which is 52.4 kilometers. This swim will start from Niagara-on-the-Lake all the way to Toronto.

This young girl will begin her unforgettable adventure on Friday evening. She is hoping that she will be able to reach her destination, Marilyn Bell Park in Toronto, on Saturday afternoon. In other words, this is going to be an overnight swim for her. She will have to brave the dark as well as the cold waters if she intends to make it all the way. That is definitely something admirable. Even if she fails to make it, I’m pretty sure that she will still receive an incredible reception.

Marilyn Bell Park was actually named after a 16 year old girl who completed the swim across the lake in 1954, which is 58 years ago. Being two years younger than Marilyn Bell doesn’t really work in favour for Annaleise. This is because she would have two years short of experience as compared to Marilyn Bell. Furthermore, her muscles at such a tender age aren’t really fully developed yet to provide her with strength. “I got an email a couple days ago from Marilyn Bell’s daughter, I’ve always wanted to meet Marilyn Bell, so it was really cool to get an email from her daughter. I wasn’t expecting it,” said Annaleise. For the full article, check it out here.

We have mentioned and stated numerous times that swimming in the open waters can be dangerous if one isn’t equipped with proper skills. In order for Annaleise to even be able to attempt such a swim, she would be required to have more than just basic swimming skills. If a 14 year old is able to reach such a proficient level in swimming, Happy Fish Swim School doesn’t see why anyone else isn’t able to learn the basics. Although some people may think that they do not require such a skill for now, we can guarantee that it will come in handy somewhere in the future. We are also pretty sure that each and everyone of us would like to know what it is like being in the water and moving freely.
