What an great story. Brendan is a brave boy for persevering despite his disability. His motivation is a great inspiration to us all.

I've just started a accessibility blog related towards tourism and mobility standards in Singapore. If you could take the time to check it out or leave a comment, I would appreciate it very much. Please share your experience dining out and about with the presence of a wheelchair/scooter user, or any other opinions regarding public accessibility standards in Singapore by commenting!

It is so easy for people to hear a news report saying there were three lifeguards on duty and jump to conclusions. I am so glad you point out not to judge such things. I am very close to one of the lifeguards and know that all three were quick to respond and went above and beyond to save him. One of the lifeguards was a supervisor who is normally not on deck and just happened to be in the right place at the right time. And the other 2 were in the middle of a rotation is the reason there were 2 of them on deck at the time. Had it happened a few minutes earlier there would have only been 1 guard on deck.

It is probably a rip current that pulls those man out to sea. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rip_current . Rip currents are very deceiving, it can look harmless but the flow rate can be up to 2.5 meters per second out towards the sea. If you can't swim faster than the flow rate, you will get pulled further and further. Beach life guards in Australia had been trained to watch out for rip currents and warn swimmers to stay away.

Simply register yourself at <a href="http://www.swimminglessons.com.sg/find-your-group-mates.htm" title="Find Swim Mates" rel="nofollow">Find Swim Mates</a>
