Toddler Swimming Lessons Syllabus


Level   Learning Intention   Success Criteria

Beginner Level I

  To gain confidence and competance in the pool environment including submersion, gliding and breath control through the surface.   Enter swimming pool independently
Move safely in the water
Participate with enjoyment
Demonstrate confidence with water on face
Exit from pool independently
Blowing bubbles into the water
Submerge and pick up object at 1m depth
Understanding of buoyancy
Breath control in the water in a relax manner
Glide 1m unassisted towards the wall
Glide away from the wall and regain feet
Assisted front/back float and regain feet
   
Level   Learning Intention   Success Criteria

Beginner Level II

  To develop confidence and competenece in floating, gliding, kicking and arm action on front and back, horizontal rotation and swim basic freestyle and backstroke   Demonstrate streamline glide with kick on front for 5m
Demonstrate the sculling movement
Demonstrate freestyle arm action
Practice streamlining and kicking
Horizontal rotation from front to back and back to front
Demonstrate breaststroke leg action
Swim 10m freestyle comfortably
Swim 10m backstroke comfortably
   
Level   Learning Intention   Success Criteria

Intermediate Level I

  To develop in Freestyle, Backstroke swimming with increasingly accurate technique and basic breaststroke   Swim 15m freestyle and backstroke competently coordinating arm action and breathing
Demonstrate breaststroke arm action and improve on leg action
Sculling competently coordinating arm action and breathing
Demonstrate basic dolphin body action
Increase efficiency in freestyle stroking and breathing in order to complete longer distance comfortably
Demonstrate full breaststroke
Demonstrate safe dives
Level   Learning Intention   Success Criteria

Intermediate Level II

  To develop endurance in Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke swimming with increasingly accurate technique and to increase water safety awareness including safe dives   Increase efficiency in backstroke in order to complete longer distances comfortably
Demonstrate personal survival skill over 1-2min including wearing clothes/clothed swim
Demonstrate a basic personal survival technique including relaxed floating and orientation over 2 - 4 min in clothing
Swim at least 25m freestyle with controlled strokes and relaxed bilateral breathing
Swim at least 25m backstroke
Swim at least 25m breaststroke
Swim side stroke for at least 15m
Increase efficiency in breaststroke in order to complete longer distance comfortably
Demonstrate sculling and personal survival skills and deep water entries
