There are certain habits that these swimming champions possess which we can learn from. They tend to follow this set of guidelines so that they can be where they are today. Therefore, if you wish to follow in the footstep of such swimmers, then you will have to pay attention to these tips.
Firstly, you have to enter into more swimming meets to practice racing. Take these competitions as a form to practice pacing and strategies as well as to test out new equipment. At the same time, such competitions will provide you with experience. In order to get better at something, experience play a huge part in helping you to learn from past mistakes.
Secondly, try to incorporate test sets (ex: 2000 TT, 15×100 best average, 10×100 fastest interval possible) into your training schedule once every two to three months. Thirdly, pay lesser attention to how you look like in the water. Instead, focus on how you actually feel in the water. There is no such thing as a “perfect” stroke because everyone has a slightly different body. This also means that we will not be able to mimic the stroke of another exactly. However, do take note that there are certain important similarities that are common among fast swimmers.
Next, always bear in mind that it is the engine and not the equipment that makes the athlete. As you may be aware, there are swimmers out there who have actually broken world records with the aid of illegal suits. Lastly, contrary to popular belief, successful swimmers do not simply focus on swimming alone.
