Toa Payoh Swimming Complex opened its doors to the public on 24th September 1973. It is a 10 minutes walk from Toa Payoh MRT station. In fact, it is also one of the oldest swimming complexes in Singapore. However, it has been keeping up to date with the more recently established complexes through upgrading and renovations. In total, there are 5 different pools in the compound. Toddlers can normally be seen playing in the wading pool. As for children and beginners, they are usually taught in either the teaching pool or training pool. The advanced students will normally practice their laps in the competition pool. The diving pool is only for the experts who have already mastered the stroke techniques in swimming.

For parents who are waiting for their child’s lesson to end, you might want to consider visiting Balestier Plaza. It’s a rather small place with only a few shops though. If you want to grab a bite, there are a few eateries from you to choose from, but not much varieties. There are also some hair saloons available for you. Unfortunately, there isn’t much retail shops or a book store.

As Toa Payoh Swimming Complex is a rather huge compound with 5 different pools, many people can be seen coming here especially over the weekends. They believe that since there are more pools available, the crowd would be evenly spread out. This is true, but only to a certain extent. The weekends are normally filled with families and children attending lessons, this is nothing surprising. Hence, if you’re the kind of swimmer who prefers your own lane that is free from students, the weekdays will be a better option. However, please be informed that on Tuesdays, the complex only starts operating from 2.30pm, so ensure that you plan your schedule accordingly.
