Swimming lessons in East Coast and Katong: a coach comes to your condo pool

The condo belt from Tanjong Rhu to Bayshore has some of the biggest pools in Singapore and a sea breeze that changes how a lesson should be planned.

Prices are set by each coach and shown before you pay. No booking fee and no area surcharge from the site.

The East Coast condo belt, from Meyer Road to Bayshore

Few parts of Singapore have as many condominium pools within walking distance of each other. Along Meyer Road and Amber Road there are Amber Park, One Amber and Silversea; in Marine Parade the large older estates such as Mandarin Gardens, Laguna Park and Neptune Court; further east, Bayshore Park and Seaside Residences at Siglap; and at the city end, Costa Rhu and its neighbours at Tanjong Rhu. There are also many smaller boutique developments tucked behind East Coast Road in Katong.

The older estates are big compounds with more than one pool, sometimes a 50-metre lap pool beside a children's pool, so say which pool you mean and where it is in the pool notes when you book.

Coaches and timing in the East

Coaches living anywhere between Geylang and Bedok can usually reach East Coast postal codes within a typical travel range. Search with your postal code to see who is listed and free. Evening slots are popular here with adults who work in the CBD and are home by 7, and filtering for a female coach costs nothing extra.

Travel along the ECP is quick, so a coach can teach at Tanjong Rhu at 4 pm and Siglap at 5.15 pm, which makes the East Coast easy to fit around a school day.

Pool notes: the sea breeze and the sun

The seafront condos catch a breeze that a pool in Bishan never feels. It is pleasant on the deck and cooler in the water, especially from November to January and after 6 pm. For younger children that means late-morning and early-afternoon slots, with the child kept moving; a 5-year-old who stands on the step in the wind gets cold quickly. Older children and adults are fine at any hour.

Sun is the other factor: many East Coast pools are open to the sky, so a rash guard and sunscreen applied 20 minutes early matter here. Pool hours are commonly 7 am to 10 pm; the large estates often ask residents to register a coach once at the management office, and a few charge a per-visit guest fee that goes to the MCST.

Babies and toddlers under 3 in East Coast and Katong

For a baby or toddler under 3, Happy Fish Swim School, our sister swim school, has pools at Bedok, a short drive from Marine Parade or Siglap, where parent-accompanied baby classes run in warm water. That is the start we recommend before a child turns 3.

How prices work in East Coast and Katong

The site adds no area surcharge. Each coach sets their own price per 45-minute lesson, with any travel cost built in, and you see it before you pay.

Set by the coach

Coaches price their own lessons, usually by experience and how far they travel. As a guide, most private condo lessons in Singapore are priced between about $50 and $100 per 45 minutes for one learner. When 2 to 4 learners share, the coach's group price is split between them.

What you pay

Exactly the coach's listed price multiplied by the number of lessons. No booking fee, no travel fee from the site, no card surcharge. PayNow or card at checkout.

Trial or package

Book one trial lesson first, or a package of 4 or 8 lessons in one weekly slot with the same coach. Packages cost the per-lesson price times the lessons, with no discount and no markup.

East Coast and Katong questions

Can the coach teach at the East Coast Park lagoon or the beach?

No. Lessons booked here are at your condo or home pool only, where the depth is known, the water is clear and a parent is nearby. Teens and adults training for an open-water event can build sighting and breathing drills at the pool first.

Our estate has two pools. Which one should the lesson use?

For beginners, whichever is shallower or has a wide set of steps, usually the children's pool or the shallow end of the main pool. For children past SwimSafer Stage 1 and for adults, the lap pool. Say which in the pool notes when you book.

Is the water too cold for lessons in the rainy season?

Rarely for anyone over 5, and never for adults. A seafront pool can drop to the mid-twenties on a wet, windy December evening, so for young children choose daytime slots. Lightning stops the lesson, and a make-up lesson is added automatically.
