Adults, many coaches teach evenings

Private adult swimming lessons at your condo pool, 1-to-1

Learn in your own pool, without an audience. Beginners, adults who never quite learned, stroke correction, and fitness swimmers who want to go faster.

Each coach sets their own price per 45-minute lesson. Filter for a male or female coach, no surcharge from the site.

Three kinds of adult learner

Say which one you are in the learner notes when you book, so the coach arrives with the right plan.

Total beginner or afraid of water

You cannot float, or you can but panic when your feet leave the floor. Start in standing-depth water, with breathing, then floating, then gliding. Nothing should be done without warning and nothing rushed. The first goal is a relaxed back float, and it changes everything.

Self-taught improver

You can get across the pool but it is exhausting. Usually it is breathing, head position and a kick that is doing too much. Stroke correction, sometimes with short video clips, fixes most of it in a package of 4 to 8.

Fitness, triathlon, open water

You want to swim 1 km without stopping, pass a fitness test, or survive the swim leg. Technique sets, pacing, bilateral breathing, sighting drills, and a plan for the days the coach is not there.

Why your own pool is the right place

Most adults who cannot swim have avoided pools precisely because of other people. A public complex at 7 pm is busy, noisy and full of lanes you are not sure you are allowed in. Your condo pool at 7 pm is usually empty. There is no one watching you practise a back float, no lane etiquette to learn, and no travel: you walk down in a towel and walk back up. Many coaches teach in the evening, so lessons fit after work.

A realistic timeline

Nobody can promise a lap by a fixed date, but with weekly lessons and a little practice in between, adult beginners commonly follow a pattern like this:

LessonsTypical milestone for a beginner
1 to 4Breathing out under water, face in, front and back float with support, then a relaxed unaided back float
5 to 8Push and glide on front and back, flutter kick with a board across the pool, standing up safely from a float
9 to 12Freestyle arms with side breathing over 10 to 15 metres, backstroke across the pool, treading water for a count
13 to 24A full 25-metre lap of freestyle with rhythmic breathing, breaststroke introduced, comfortable in deep water

Fear of water adds a few lessons at the start; swimming twice a week shortens the calendar. More on how many lessons it takes.

Choosing your coach

Coaches on this site are independent. Each profile shows the coach's photo, experience, languages, price, the certificates they keep on file, and reviews from families and adults who booked through the site. Look for a coach who mentions adult beginners or nervous swimmers. Filter for a male or female coach; only coaches with a free slot near your postal code are shown. You keep the same coach for the whole package, and a single trial lesson lets you find out whether you get on before you commit. Browse coaches.

How prices work

Adult lessons work the same way as children's. Each coach sets their own price per 45-minute lesson for 1 learner, or for up to four adults at a similar level who share it.

Set by the coach

Coaches price their own lessons, usually by experience and how far they travel. As a guide, most private condo lessons in Singapore are priced between about $50 and $100 per 45 minutes for one learner. When 2 to 4 learners share, the coach's group price is split between them.

What you pay

Exactly the coach's listed price multiplied by the number of lessons. No booking fee, no travel fee from the site, no card surcharge. PayNow or card at checkout.

Trial or package

Book one trial lesson first, or a package of 4 or 8 lessons in one weekly slot with the same coach. Packages cost the per-lesson price times the lessons, with no discount and no markup.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take an adult to learn to swim?

For a complete beginner, plan on 8 to 12 weekly lessons to float, glide and breathe with your face in the water comfortably, and 16 to 24 to swim a 25-metre lap of freestyle with rhythmic breathing. Adults who are afraid of water often need a few extra sessions at the start and then move quickly. Two lessons a week roughly halves the calendar time.

Am I too old to learn to swim?

No. Coaches teach adults in their twenties and adults in their sixties and seventies, and the method is the same: patience, small steps, no rushing. Older learners often do better than teenagers because they listen and practise. If you have a medical condition, check with your doctor and put it in the learner notes when you book.

What should I wear?

Whatever you are comfortable in: a swimsuit, jammers, board shorts with a rash guard, or a burkini. Goggles are worth buying because they remove the biggest source of anxiety, water in the eyes. A cap keeps hair out of the way.

I am terrified of water. Can a coach really help?

Yes, and you are not unusual. The first lessons happen at the shallow end or on the steps, in water you can stand in, and a good coach does nothing without warning. The work starts with breathing out under water and trusting that you float, before any swimming. Many fearful adults are gliding by lesson four. Read our guide on learning to swim with a fear of water.

Can I choose a male or female coach?

Yes. Filter by gender when you search and only matching coaches are shown. The site adds no surcharge either way; each coach sets their own price. Ladies who want a female coach can also use the ladies page.

Can my partner and I share a lesson?

Yes, if you are at a similar level: book for 2 learners and you share the coach's 2-learner price. Up to four adults can share with coaches who take groups that size. Two beginners work well together; a beginner and a lap swimmer do not.
