Ages 4 to 16, at your pool
Private kids swimming lessons at your condo pool (ages 4 to 16)
Water confidence first, then the SwimSafer stages, then real strokes. One coach you choose, your child, your pool, every week at the same time.
Each coach sets their own price. Siblings or friends can share one coach, splitting the group price.
Three age bands, three different lessons
A 4-year-old and a 14-year-old need different coaching. Here is how the 45 minutes are usually spent at each stage.
4 to 6: water confidence
Breath control, face in the water, floating on front and back, kicking with a board, and safe entry and exit. Games carry most of the work. The goal is a child who is calm and capable in water, which is the foundation for everything after.
7 to 12: SwimSafer stages 1 to 3
Survival skills first: treading water, floating for time, sculling, then freestyle and backstroke over 25 to 50 metres. Breaststroke is introduced at Stage 2 to 3. A coach who works to the SwimSafer 2.0 checklist makes an assessment a formality, not a surprise.
Teens: technique and fitness
Stroke correction, butterfly, turns, endurance sets, and preparation for Bronze, Silver and Gold. Also useful for school swim tests, fitness, or a teen who never quite learned and would rather not do it in a public pool.
SwimSafer 2.0 alignment
SwimSafer is Singapore's national water-safety programme. It has six stages: Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Many coaches on this site teach the same syllabus at your condo, so the skills line up one to one; the coach's profile tells you. The difference from a group class at a public pool is time: your child gets the coach's full attention for 45 minutes rather than a share of it among six or eight children.
Assessments must be conducted by a registered assessor at an approved pool. Your coach can tell you when your child is ready, and you then book an assessment with a provider that runs them. The programme recommends that children be at least 6 for Stage 1, so a younger child works on readiness skills and is assessed later.

Why 1-to-1 or a small sibling group beats a group of six for beginners
In a group lesson a beginner might get four or five minutes of hands-on coaching in an hour, and spend the rest waiting on the wall. Beginners learn by being held in the right position, corrected immediately, and repeating the movement while it is fresh. Private lessons give that in every minute. Children who come from group classes often move faster once they are corrected in real time.
A small group of two, three or four works well for children within about two years of age and at a similar level. While one swims a drill, the coach works hands-on with another; all of them are moving throughout. It is also simply nicer for many children to learn beside a sibling or a friend from the same condo.

Safety at a condo pool
- Every listed coach has a lifesaving certificate and a CPR certificate on file and in date, alongside a swim instructor certificate.
- One coach to at most four learners, never more.
- Lightning or heavy rain: everyone out, nothing deducted, a make-up lesson added automatically.
- A parent, helper or grandparent stays at the pool during the lesson, as most MCSTs require.
- After each lesson you confirm it went ahead. If anything was wrong, say so and a person reviews it before the coach is paid.
What an 8-lesson package usually covers
Every child is different, so treat this as a typical path for a 5 to 7-year-old beginner, not a promise.
| Lessons | Focus | What you will see at the pool |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 2 | Comfort and breath control | Blowing bubbles, face in, bobbing, safe entry from the steps |
| 3 to 4 | Floating and gliding | Front and back floats with support, then unaided; push and glide from the wall |
| 5 to 6 | Kicking and arms | Kickboard laps, flutter kick on the back, first freestyle arm cycles |
| 7 to 8 | Putting it together | A few metres of freestyle with breathing, back kick across the pool, treading water for a count |
After each lesson the coach adds a short note, so you can see what was worked on and what to practise before next week.
How prices work
There is no fixed price list. Each coach sets their own price per 45-minute lesson for 1, 2, 3 or 4 learners, and you see it on their profile before you pay.
Set by the coach
Coaches price their own lessons, usually by experience and how far they travel. As a guide, most private condo lessons in Singapore are priced between about $50 and $100 per 45 minutes for one learner. When 2 to 4 learners share, the coach's group price is split between them.
What you pay

Frequently asked questions
What age should my child start swimming lessons?
From 4 most children can start structured lessons at a condo pool; some 3-year-olds are ready too, and we cover that on the toddlers page. The real test is not age but whether your child can follow a simple instruction, tolerate water on the face, and stay engaged for 45 minutes. Under 3, we recommend a heated indoor pool. Read the readiness guide.
How many lessons does it take to learn to swim?
For a 5 to 7-year-old with no water experience, expect around 8 lessons to float, glide and put the face in with confidence, and 16 to 24 weekly lessons to swim a width of freestyle and backstroke unaided. Children who practise between lessons, even 15 minutes with a parent, move noticeably faster. More on timelines.
Is the lesson aligned to SwimSafer?
Many coaches on the site teach to the SwimSafer 2.0 syllabus, so the skills your child practises at the condo map to Stages 1 to 3 and the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels; check the coach's profile. Assessments are conducted by registered assessors at approved venues, not at your condo. How condo lessons map to SwimSafer.
What should my child bring?
Swimwear, goggles that fit, a towel, and a rash guard if the pool is in full sun. Sunscreen should go on 20 minutes before the lesson. Most coaches bring kickboards and teaching aids. Long hair in a cap keeps it out of the eyes and makes floating easier.
Is a condo pool deep enough or safe enough?
Most condo lap pools are 1.2 to 1.5 metres, which is fine for lessons: beginners work at the shallow end or on the steps, and a good coach stays within arm's reach of a beginner the whole time. If your pool has a children's pool, early lessons often start there. A parent or helper must stay at the pool during children's lessons.
Can teenagers join?
Yes, up to 16 on this page and adults from 17 on the adults page. Teens usually come for stroke correction, endurance for school or a swim team, or to finish SwimSafer Gold. Lessons are 1-to-1 unless two friends of similar ability want to share.
